Environmental Economics (Fall 1999)

Quantitative Methods for Business (Fall 2000)
- Instructor had a difficult task of teaching such a boring subject - he handled it well; used many
outside sources
- Jake is a very nice, fun teacher who really cares about the students. Its been a pleasure
having him as a teacher.
- Very easy to schedule outside time for extra help.
- Everything that he taught seemed easy and clear. Considering the difficulty of the subject this
has been one of the best teachers I have ever had. He was fun and I enjoyed the class. He
motivated me to work very hard.

Environmental Economics (Fall 2000)
- He seems to really enjoy teaching and teaching on this topic especially. The class games and
projects were great to reinforce the ideas that we learned about. Writing the letters was fun and
made class more enjoyable. This was a very interesting class, I would recommend it to others.
- Professor Pasternak is a very good teacher who is very enthusiastic about this course. I think
enthusiasm is his biggest strength, and also his ability to put the issues into examples that we
could all relate to.
- His strengths include enthusiasm, creativity, variety of assignments, movies, read and reacts,
good choice of material, use of lots of examples, outlining what we were going to do at the
beginning of class, availability to students, humor!
- His personality is unique and his humorous comments are timely.
- Professor Pasternak has an excellent ability to relate to his students. He does his best to
make the information interesting and understandable. His tests and other graded materials were
graded fairly and returned promptly.
- I enjoyed this class, the cases were interesting as well as the subject material. It was good
varying lesson strategies from lecture, movies, games, etc.
- His enthusiasm about the subject is unprecedented. He was very outspoken and willing to
talk in his office if anyone needed help.

about the subject he teaches.

- You can tell that he loves what he teaches and knows what he is talking about. He is also laid
back enough to relate to students.
- He was always well prepared and presented the information in an effective manner.
- Very laid back & down-to-earth with students. He is very fair & a very nice man! He should be a
full-time professor here!
- Professor Pasternak is very approachable. He related to the class well and made sure we
understood what he was teaching, and made it very clear as to what he wanted us to learn. I would
highly recommend him to others.

Quantitative Methods for Business (Spring 2001)
- He is able to take a subject that can often be boring, and make it actually exciting to learn. He
does a great job in relating statistics to real life applications. He is a challenging teacher but make
learning statistics interesting.
- Jake is a very high quality professor who cares about how you are doing in his course. He
was available for help and willing to explain any questions presented. I did not put all "Excellents"
down because I didn't feel like filling it out. It was because I meant it.
- He's good at relating the material to things the students are interested in.
- Professor Pasternak is a very enthusiastic teacher who handles class very well and is very
good at making both stats & class interesting.
- Jake's real-life sample exercises were great because they showed us how we could use
statistics in our lives. His in-class statistical analyses were fun and educational.
Economic Analysis for MBA (Summer 2001)
- Maintained interest through variety and discussion of current events.
- Instructor presents information in a very practical manner; uses current application of theory to
emphasize points; very good at stimulating class interest in subject matter.

Economic Analysis for MBA (Fall 2001)
- It is obvious that he loves economics.
- He is laid back, easy to talk to. He teaches extraordinarily well. He makes econ easy to learn.
He has a very practical approach to teaching the material, which, for me, is the easiest method of
learning. Brings in outside information to the table every class which makes for everything BUT a
boring class. The 3 Hours zoom by.
- Willingness to work with students who need to miss a class (videotaped 2 classes for us).
Environmental Economics (Fall 2001)
- Professor Pasternak was very prepared and helped to relate class topics to outside the
classroom events on a daily basis.
- Certainly enjoys teaching the course, homeworks correlate well with what is being discussed
in class, enjoyable class.
- He is very easy to understand. He translates economic terms into "real" English. He is very
easy to talk to (in and out of class). He also seems very interested in the subject matter, which in
turn, makes class more interesting.
- This guy knows how to teach. Each class begins review of last class concepts. He speaks
slowly and understandably and makes sure the students understand. I learned more in this class
because Jake made sure we learned. Other teachers just don't do that. My best teacher in the
B-school so far.
Macroeconomics (Spring 2002)
- He is very enthusiastic and excited about macroeconomics. We did some interesting class
activities.
- I liked how he incorporated studying the actual markets and economy into what we were
learning in class.
- He's very funny in class and I can tell he enjoys what he is doing which also makes him very
effective.
- Instructor was very enthusiastic and used interesting and insightful examples to help explain
information. He made learning fun by having us learn about GDP, jobless claims, CPI and other
economic stats through predicting future numbers. Great teacher!
- Jake is one of my very favorite teachers at this school.
- Professor Pasternak always treats his students with great respect. He also is always very
enthused to teach econ and does so in an accurate and fun manner.

relationships, makes learning fun.
- Professor Pasternak is the best teacher I have had here at UR. His teaching ability is excellent
and his material was not confusing at all. He was a very understanding teacher and his listening
skills were the best I've seen. Not only was he always available for help, but he is always willing to
give help. He is great.
- He is well prepared for class and I like that he adds in current events. It's really great to know
about econ in today's world so you can talk about it among your peers and understand the
economy, even if you aren't an econ major.
Business Statistics (Spring 2002)
- Fair and honest teacher who is always willing to provide extra help if need be. I would
recommend him to others.
- He makes it interesting, which is hard because statistics is inherently boring. Also his test
questions were very fair, he didn't try to fool people, he was straightforward in what he wanted us to
know. I think he did a great job and didn't make me dread going to class. He was an all around
quality professor.
- Relates material to students, will answer any questions students have, explains problems
well and in many different ways.
- He took a subject that is generally un-interesting and was able to hold the attention of the
class and make us want to learn.
- He is a very caring and fair professor. I felt very comfortable in his class. The assignments
that he gave us were fair.
- Jake relates well to students and makes it fun to learn. I actually had fun during a bunch of
classes which says a lot for a stats course. Doing HW's from the study guide was a great idea for
reinforcing what we learned and making sure we understood the material. I really enjoyed this
class.
- Answers unclear problems well; he is good at explaining the thought behind formulas and
concepts; uses class interaction to stimulate class interest.
- Jake's ability to keep the class interesting and get the students to interact and not just take
notes was great.
